“What a blooming week!”

Following on from their success in In Bloom, Immingham has now also won the CPRE North & North East Lincs Best Kept Village Competition at the first attempt. Entering the small town category against the likes of Barton, Winterton and Waltham, Immingham rose from joint second after the first round of voting, to score an amazing 146 /150 in round 2 to clinch the title.

For general appearance the judges commented “For a town of this size we couldn’t find anything to really find fault with. We were pleasantly surprised by many things about Immingham, it’s a great improvement over the past and a huge effort has clearly gone into the In Bloom aspect. Well done to all concerned”

Winning joint “Best Kept War Memorial” too means a lot to the town. Clerk Dave Jackson said “Our site worker, Simon Broughton has so much pride in his work, he keeps it immaculate. We scored maximum points so fair play to Brigg, theirs must be nice too”

In addition the judges spotted Winners Chip shop, the “beautiful hanging baskets” and commented on the overall cleanliness and lack of litter. Deputy Mayor Neil Castle added “ We took over street cleaning from NELC earlier in the year and it is clearly paying dividends. Our staff, Kris and Michelle do a brilliant job, they are so keen. Thanks too to all the volunteers who help out and the businesses for sponsoring us. I am absolutely bowled over by how far we have come.”

Councillor Alex Wallace, portfolio holder for environment and strategic housing for North East Lincolnshire, said: “Winning a silver gilt award in the East Midland In Bloom competition and now securing the Best Kept Village award for this area is great for Immingham. Everyone involved and residents should be very proud. Working towards these accolades does lift people’s spirits and brings the community together.”
